How yoga helps during your pregnancy

Yoga is safe to practice during all trimesters. It has been proven to help improve flexibility, muscle strength and agility. It may also help reduce headaches, alleviate morning sickness and improve digestion. Yoga can have a positive effect on circulation, swelling, and inflammation. Here is a great article↗ on how yoga can benefit you in your first trimester.

In terms of balance, yoga can help you develop a deeper awareness of your alignment as you improve your overall posture. This means you would be able to adapt better to the physical changes of pregnancy and the shifting centre of gravity.

When the course starts and ends

The current 5-week course started on Thursday 9th May and will run until Thursday 6th June. You are welcome to join us on pay-as-you-go basis. See ‘how to book’↗ section for more information. As places are limited (maximum 8), you might want to reserve your place as soon as possible.

This prenatal course will not continue from June 2024, unfortunately. Private prenatal and postnatal classes are available to book on my site.

What to expect from the course

Our course is an all rounded mind-body-soul therapy. I say this because I truly believe that yoga is a form of therapy.

All five classes of the course have elements of mindfulness meditation to calm the mind and help you connect with your body. Mindfulness and yogic breathing can help you relieve stress and pain.

At your own pace, you will learn the correct alignments in sun salutations as well as powerful yoga poses, such as warrior poses – adapted to prenatal, as necessary. These are the poses that help you reach your fitness goals whilst not over-exerting yourself. You will also practice poses for improving joint flexibility including, of course, opening the hips in preparation for birth. As ever, you are encouraged to listen to your body and to practice at your own pace and level.

Remember, group classes are great ways to meet other expecting mums in your city. If the group is up for it, we could have socials after class – at the beginning or end of the course, so we get to know each other better. Of course, this is totally optional. You are also welcome to join our Facebook group, Yoga & Mediation in Bath, as it’s sometimes quicker to communicate online – if you are already on Facebook.

Meet your instructor

My name is Sossi. I live in Bath. I have experience of teaching yoga and meditation to groups and individuals in three countries since 2017, including prenatal and postnatal yoga. I received great reviews from a number of customers who attended my classes over the years. You can find my reviews here↗ and a few more here.↗ Also, here is more information about me.↗ I currently teach at various studios – have a look at my timetable↗ for any interest.

I have a prenatal and postnatal yoga instructor qualification from World Yoga Alliance. I am also a Yoga Alliance certified teacher of vinyasa flow, yin yoga and pranayama (yogic breathing).

“As a complete yoga newbie, I was nervous about trying prenatal yoga but Sossi has created a warm and welcoming environment that is perfect for expectant mums of all experience levels. The classes have helped me to stay flexible, manage aches and pains, and reduce stress. Would highly recommend.” Esther (Bath, 2024)

“Have absolutely loved the pregnancy yoga course with Sossi. Unlike some other prenatal classes, this feels like proper yoga, like you are actually getting a proper yoga session in and I always feel amazing after. And the music is amazingly relaxing throughout, very zen. Will definitely be signing up for another course, before baby arrives! Thank you Sossi!” Holly (Bath, 2024)

“Sossi’s class has helped me keep my mind and body strong through pregnancy and it’s great that it is tailored for our bodies. The breathing in particular has been really great help. It’s an absolute pleasure to be part of her class and I hope to continue her yoga classes after the birth.” Alex (Bath, 2024)

I am very much looking forward to welcoming you to our group yoga at Hillside Community Hall.

If you have any questions, or comments, you can post them below or email me via my website.↗

Namaste,

Sossi x
